3. Can I restrict my gift to a particular beneficiary(ies)?
Yes, you will have the ability to choose which beneficiary(ies) you would like to restrict or you can donate ArchdioceseOne gifts without any restrictions.
4. Will unrestricted gifts be used to support anything other than the appeal?
No. This will be ensured by the Catholic Foundation in the Archdiocese of Dubuque (see above), as well as the archdiocese. Donor intent will be honored 100%, and to the letter of the donor's wishes. Unrestricted gifts will be unrestricted in terms of which of the beneficiaries it supports, but restricted to only supporting these four beneficiaries and nothing else.
5. What if the beneficiary I restrict my gift to reaches its goal? Will my restriction be honored?
Yes. Gifts will only be used for their restricted purpose. Donor intent is something we take seriously and strive to always honor a donor's wishes. If gifts are designated as unrestricted, they will be divided proportionally among the four beneficiaries until one or more beneficiaries reaches its goal, and will then be directed to the beneficiaries which still have not met their goal.
6. What kind of gifts will be accepted?
We can accept many different kinds of gifts, including but not limited to: cash, check, credit card, electronic fund transfers, gifts of stock, IRA distributions, gifts of grain, appreciated assets, and property.
7. How are these funds being protected?
All funds are being directly deposited into the Catholic Foundation in the Archdiocese of Dubuque (CFAD). CFAD is a separate entity from the Archdiocese of Dubuque, and has its own dedicated governing board and officers. This foundation acts similarly to local community foundations, and approves disbursements for each fund when appropriate. They are disbursing funds for Cathedral of St. Raphael repairs and immigration legal services as needed, and placing funds for seminary education and priest retirement into the seminary education endowment and Priest Pension Plan, respectively.
8. Will contributions to ArchdioceseOne impact the parish/cluster taxa assessment?
No.
9. How will information about ArchdioceseOne be shared?
Information will be shared in as many ways as possible. That will include this website, the Archdiocese of Dubuque website, email, social media posts and direct mail. Information will include how fundraising is progressing, more information about the beneficiaries and how appeal funds are being used.
10. How long is the special appeal?
There is a two-part answer to this question. The active fundraising portion for the special appeal began with its relaunch in 2022, and will wrap up in March of 2023. During this time, the special appeal will be taking place in each parish across the archdiocese in four "waves". As for the payment period of the special appeal, this will last for five years, with pledge fulfillment taking place any time during that period.
11. How will ArchdioceseOne financially impact parishes/clusters or Catholic schools?
We pray there will be no effect. This is a special appeal. Gifts should be considered “sacrificial” in nature, above and beyond regular support for your parish/cluster or Catholic school. Gifts for ArchdioceseOne should not come at the expense of local parishes or Catholic schools.
12. Can local parishes and/or Catholic schools conduct capital campaigns during the pledge period of ArchdioceseOne?
Yes. There are no moratoriums on local fundraising efforts.
13. When can I make my contribution to ArchdioceseOne?
Each parish will participate in the appeal during a 10-week local appeal period, as a part of the ArchdioceseOne appeal effort. These local appeal periods will take place throughout 2022 and conclude in 2023.
Everyone will receive a letter sent directly to their home prior to Weekend 6 of the special appeal in their parish. If they have already made a gift or pledge, they will receive a thank you letter instead. There will also be in-pew pledge cards made available beginning Weekend 6 (commitment weekend), for those who did not receive one to their home.
14. What if I wish to make my donation prior to my parish’s local appeal window?
If you would like more information about making a sacrificial gift to the ArchdioceseOne special appeal now, please contact Jeff Schneider at 563-556-2580 ext. 219 or [email protected], or contact Cassie Bird at 563-556-2580 ext. 211 or [email protected].
